Celebrating World Book Day and our Masonic Literacy Champion initiative in collaboration with The National Literacy Trust

Literacy is the ability to read, write, speak and listen in a way that lets us communicate effectively and make sense of the world. It gives us the skills to navigate the world and empowers us to make our own choices about where we want to go in life.  Grand Lodge is proud to be working with The National Literacy Trust to develop and train Masonic Literacy Champions as part of a pilot project within the Provinces of Fife and Kinross, Forfarshire, Perthshire East and Perthshire West.  This promises to be an exciting opportunity to enable The Scottish Craft to make a meaningful contribution to highlighting the importance of literacy and improving literacy levels in their areas, which would be achieved via the development of a masonic volunteering model.    The pilot is the first step in what we hope will be an initiative which can be expanded to all Provincial Grand Lodges on a phased basis.

Literacy changes everything. It opens the door to the life you want. It’s the key to knowledge, confidence and inspiration. It’s better results at school, and better jobs. If you grow up without the tools to communicate, without books to read or opportunities to write, it’s harder to get where you want to go.  Our collaboration with The National Literacy Trust aims to train Masonic Literacy Champions to empower them to take active roles in shaping and delivering the work of the Charity and help people change their stories.
