Grand Lodge of Scotland Presented with Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award
The Grand Lodge of Scotland has been presented with the prestigious Silver Employer Recognition Scheme Award.
This distinguished accolade is the second-highest badge of honour available to organisations who have signed the Armed Forces Covenant, a commitment to supporting Defence through services, policy and projects.
The Grand Lodge of Scotland joined with 20 other businesses and organisations who were recognised for employing and supporting Reservists, service leavers, Cadet Force Adult Volunteers and their families.
Immediate Past Grand Master, Brother William Ramsay McGhee, accepted the award.
Afterwards he said, “The Grand Lodge of Scotland was delighted to progress a suggestion from one of its members to make a commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant.
“In November 2023, after taking advice, we cemented this commitment at an event in Freemasons’ Hall at which more than 100 guests witnessed me and Colonel Anthony Phillips sign the Covenant.
“After receiving excellent support from our Engagement Officer, Grand Lodge was very proud to attain the Silver Award earlier this year.
“The process of honouring our pledge has been an enlightening learning curve which has proved to be both interesting and enjoyable.
“It has been a pleasure for our Grand Almoner and our Homes and Charities Manager to attend various events over the last year, including the Barry Budden Cadet Training Camp and a visit to the Personnel Recovery Centre in Edinburgh.
“We look forward to hosting a Cadet event in Freemasons’ Hall as soon as arrangements can be co-ordinated.
“It is with an immense sense of pride that we continue on our Armed Forces Journey which is underpinned by the desire to do all that we can to support the Armed Forces Community.”
The ceremony took place at the City of Glasgow College on Thursday, October 3rd and was hosted by the Lowland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association.
The winners were presented with their awards by senior Defence representative, Naval Regional Commander for Scotland and Northern Ireland, Brigadier Andrew Muddiman ADC.
